My first time traveling to Asia was as a guest of FIDE Fashion Weeks to present my Spring collection at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel in Singapore. After a week of castings, fittings, and producing my first runway show, I ventured out to search for authentic local fare and a less Western experience.
While sipping on a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel, I got a sense of Colonial history and the cross pollination of British with Asian culture. Then I sprinted up Fort Canning Hill in the midday heat, and much to my surprise, stumbled onto a Rothko exhibit. Rothko's ombre expressionist paintings would set the tone for the color palate of my next season.
Days later, along the mosquito-swarmed banks of the Chao Phraya river in Bangkok, I took a nod from the art deco interiors at the Siam Hotel. From the tile patterns in the bathroom to the wallpaper and geometric lighting fixtures in the Deco Bar & Bistro, to the antique block print carvings on display- inspiration for my Fall collection began to take shape.
